Everything you want to know about IVF
What is In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)?
In Vitro Fertilization is one of the major solutions to infertility. In Vitro Fertilization refers to the process wherein the mother’s eggs are extracted and allowed to fertilize with the father’s sperm in an artificial setup. Next, the fertilized embryo is reinserted inside the mother’s uterus where it can grow naturally. IVF is very popular nowadays and thanks to awareness, lots of individuals are considering this option. The causes for not being able to procreate may be known or unknown. But whatever the case, it won’t be able to stop you from becoming a parent. In Vitro Fertilization has allowed numerous parents to conceive and give birth regardless of infertility or other complications. You can get the best treatment at an affordable cost.
How the IVF Treatment Process Works – Step by Step
In Vitro Fertilization is an 8-step treatment process. One can expect the following while undergoing IVF Treatment:
Step 1: Ovarian stimulation
Ovarian stimulation refers to the process wherein medicine is prescribed to increase hormone production and stimulate egg production, hence stimulating the ovary. At times, this may even involve prescribing additional hormones that the female may naturally lack. The aim is to stimulate the ovary to produce healthy eggs.
Step 2: Monitoring the patient
During this stage, medical practitioners take various measures to monitor the health and functioning of the ovaries, egg formation, and hormonal levels in the blood. This helps to ensure that the treatment is effective and ongoing safely.
Step 3: Maturing the eggs
To mature the eggs, the mother is injected with a special hormone that helps to trigger egg maturation. This hormonal injection is given 2 days before retrieval of the egg. The purpose of the hormonal injection is to cause the egg to mature quickly and be ready for retrieval.
Step 4: Retrieving the egg
This is one of the most crucial stages as it involves a bit of surgery. During this stage, through surgery and careful monitoring, the mature egg is removed from the follicles. This procedure involves ultrasound imaging and a special needle. It lasts for about 30 minutes.
Step 5: Collecting sperm
The next step is the collection of the sperm from the male partner or a sperm donor. The collected sperm will later be used to fertilize the egg.
Step 6: Egg fertilization
This is the most important stage. In this stage, the sperm is allowed to fertilize the egg. This process is known as insemination. But in some cases, intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) may be used to inject a single sperm into the egg and further assist with fertilization. Next, the fertilized egg is carefully monitored as it undergoes cell division.
Step 7: Embryo transfer
As soon as the fertilized egg develops into an embryo, it is reinserted into the mother or surrogate mother’s womb. The fertilized egg generally takes about three to five days to mature into an embryo.
Step 8: Testing for pregnancy
About two weeks after the embryo has been reinserted into the mother’s or surrogate mother’s womb, a blood test is taken to monitor if the pregnancy is positive. If not, then they will need to discuss another IVF treatment or other options with the medical team from best IVF centre in Bangalore.

IVF is an apt option if your partner is infertile and has been diagnosed with Endometriosis, low sperm counts, problems with the female reproductive system, antibody problems that harm sperm or eggs, reduced vitality of the sperm, poor egg quality, genetic disorders in either parent and other unexplained complications.
