Do Memory Foam Mattresses Sag Quickly?

A memory foam mattress consists of polyurethane foam that has the ability to contour to the shape of your body. The foam density differs according to the price going from low density to high density. Although memory foam mattress consisting of higher density foam is considered to last longer, you are still required to replace it after ten years due to hygiene issues. The foam mattress price of one with medium density is considerably lower than other mattresses. In fact, experts it eh industry recommend investing in a medium density memory foam mattress as it offers your body the right amount of comfort and firmness without denting your wallet.

When Do Memory Foam Mattresses Start To Sag?

Memory foam mattresses are made to contour to your body shape. The density of the foam used in the mattress plays a big role in determining when it will start to sag. However, it is important to know that a slight bit of sagging is to be expected after you start using your memory foam mattress. You can try to reduce the amount of sagging by rotating it every three months. This will prevent huge dips from appearing in your mattress. Interestingly, if your memory foam mattress is made using lower density foam, chances are higher that you will start noticing it starting to sink or sag sooner rather than later. This is why people prefer to invest in medium to high-density memory foam mattress or latex mattresses.

Reasons Behind Memory Foam Mattress Sagging

The memory foam mattress is made using foam which consists of air holes to promote airflow. The number of holes in the foam determines its density. The higher the density, the lower will be the number of holes. When the mattress experiences pressure, it will start compressing slowly. Higher density foams have a capability of withstanding pressure for a longer period of time, yet will still start compressing after a while. Once a memory foam mattress starts sagging or sinking you cannot really do anything to rectify the problem.

Do Memory Foam Mattress Sag Quickly

By the time eight years are up after you bought the mattress, the sagging becomes more noticeable making it inevitable to buy a new foam mattress online. One way of avoiding your mattress from sagging too quickly is by rotating it every three months. Flipping the mattress is not recommended since memory foam layers are built with different layers from the top and bottom specifically.

How To Prevent Sinking?

All mattresses have a tolerance of about 2 cm of sagging. This is why experts in the industry recommend investing in a mattress that has at least 5 cm or more foam layers. You can also consider investing in a hybrid bed that comes with different layers where the bottom layer is considerably firmer, thereby helping reduce the sagging of the top memory foam layer of the mattress. Since the memory foam mattress cannot be flipped like a traditional mattress, you can look for mattresses that come with removable top memory foam layers. These can be rotated and flipped, thereby reducing the amount of compression caused by the pressure when you sleep on the mattress.
