Jowar /Sorghum Laddu -Healthy Sweets with Millets
Laddus are always favorite sweet for everyone; when it comes to kids they always prefer sweets next to chocolates. Jowar Laddu is a healthy sweet recipe with millet which can be easily prepared with simple ingredients. Cholam laddu is a healthy and easy sweet for kids and for adults too. Make sure you clean and wash the millet before using it. Jowar is an excellent source of calcium among all other millets and cereals, not only calcium it’s also a good source of iron, protein, and fiber. It has several health benefits like lowering blood cholesterol level, boosting heart health and makes bone stronger. Even diabetic can take Jowar as it is gluten-free.
Healthy Jowar /Sorghum Laddu -Sweets with Millets
I have used brown sugar to make it more delicious and healthy, it contains essential nutrients and it’s a good source of dietary potassium, calcium, magnesium, and vitamin B. Desiccated coconut always improve the taste of the dishes and is super healthy, it contains essential nutrients like magnesium, copper, and selenium. Using dried coconut gives a better shelf life.Jowar laddus make a perfect power-packed snack for kids and can be prepared during festivals. I have included chopped nut to make sure Jowar laddu contains omega fats, PUFA and MUFA too.

Ingredients required
• Jowar/ Sorghum – 1 cup
• Powdered Brown sugar – 1 cup
• Desiccated coconut – ¼ cup
• Dry roasted and powdered nuts (almond/ walnut/ pistachio/cashew) – 1/4 Cup
• Powdered Cardamom – 1 tbsp
• Ghee – ¼ cup, add little more to roll laddu

Pre-Preparation time: 20 min Prep Time: 20 min No of Servings: 10 jowar laddus
Method
1. Always clean and wash jowar before use.Soak it in lukewarm water for 10 mins, then drain the excess water and sundry for 10 minutes.
2. In a thick pan, we are going to prepare jowar popcorns, so heat the pan on high flame and let it become hot
3. Once the pan is hot, add jowar, keep stirring with a spatula
4. Once the grains start popping, cover the pan with a lid. Make sure it is closed completely without any gaps/opening.
5. Once the popcorn is ready, transfer it to a clean utensil and let it cool so 2 minutes.
6. Grind the jowar popcorn coarsely and transfer it to a mixing bowl.
7. Add powdered brown sugar, desiccated coconut, cardamon powder, powdered dry fruits ( almonds, walnuts, pistachio, cashew ) to jowar powder.
8. Heat the ghee in a pan, add it to the mixing bowl and mix well.
9. Grease your palm with ghee and start making Jowar laddus. small lemon sized balls of the mixture,
10. Garnish with saffron strands or chopped nuts.
