Children Need to Read More- How this is a paradigm statement in today’s world

Here’s taking a closer look at why reading should be an essential activity for all children without a doubt.

Children Need to Read More- How this is a paradigm statement in today’s world

Of course, you should put your child in an exciting and engaging kids activity or suitable online hobby classes which help him/her discover things he/she is good at, cultivate new interests and give rein to his/her creativity. Platforms like Yellow Class help greatly in this regard. While activities help children make new friends, build new skills and learn to use their imagination, there is another activity that children should not neglect by all means. This is reading.

It goes without saying that reading enables the human mind to imagine, to feel, perceive, get lost in new worlds and venture to other worlds albeit temporarily. Books and characters can transform our perceptions, thoughts and momentary circumstances alike. At the same time, while experiencing the joyous wonders of reading, children can also learn new phrases and words while exploring new emotions and acquiring diverse knowledge and skills. The effects are highly positive on children and numerous benefits can be obtained from developing a reading habit from a very early age.

how to keep kids busy during pandemic

There is huge importance attached to reading for children. Reading will naturally benefit the social and cognitive development of kids along with their education, perspective, creativity, imagination and of course, their mental health and overall wellbeing. Research reports have indicated clearly that children develop more when they start reading. Reading not only enhances literacy skills but also encourages more children to start engaging with their surrounding world. Reading also builds a habit of acquiring information and knowledge in various fields. There are several other advantages that accrue from reading.

Assisted Cognitive Development

Cognitive Development indicates the way we actually perceive and introspect about the world around us, in relation to our own reasoning, intelligence, information processing and language development. Once you read to a child, you will give him/her a deeper understanding of the surrounding world while filling background knowledge into their minds. They will use this knowledge for understanding and making sense of whatever they have heard, seen and read, thereby greatly boosting their overall cognitive development.

Empathy Development

Whenever a book is being read, children start putting themselves in the place of the other characters. This will help them develop more empathy while they experience lives of other people and characters. They also start identifying with the feelings of these characters. Children can then develop this understanding and these insights towards building more empathy for people in the real world. Additionally, children will get a better understanding of emotions in people and this will help them understand other people’s emotions and also their own. This greatly enhances social development.

Better understanding

Books take readers into other lands, cities, countries and also into newer realms. By reading, children learn about countries, events, people and places that they would not understand otherwise.

Hence, as a parent, you should encourage your child to start reading from a very early age.

When you read, you are more informed, and that I think allows you to take informed and better decisions. Also reading in today’s fast paced life is such a rarity. Yellow Class is doing a commendable job in encouraging young kids to take up reading.

I agree kids should have the habit of reading books from an early age. My daughter is not an avid reader but sometimes read books. And I am trying to build the habit in my son of reading daily
