7 Brilliant Ways To Promote Sustainable Tourism
The places we travel has a rich cultural and historical heritage. We travel to enjoy the beauty of the destinations. We travel to fall in love with hills, mountains and rivers. We rejoice the architectural and historic wonders of the place. As a tourist, we must be considerate about the things that we do in the place because it is home to the local residents. As we enjoy the wonders we must not exploit it. The place that is enjoyed must be sustainable for long, so that the future travelers could enjoy it and the local residents would be happy and proud about the heritage of their place.
7 Brilliant Ways To Promote Sustainable Tourism
It is important to promote sustainable tourism. Here are the 7 brilliant ways for that.
1. Use the resources judiciously
It is important to use important resources like food, water and electricity wisely to maintain the sustainability of the place. The tourist must be cautious during their stay and remember that the wastage of any resources beyond need will make the place that they enjoy less sustainable in future. So, the tourists must switch off all the electric gadgets in the hotel they stay when not needed.
2. Give due respect to heritage sites
The heritage sites hold great importance. They portray the ancient historic and cultural significance. The tourist must be sensitive to the artifacts preserved in monument or museums. The tourist must remember that they have been preserved for several years and leave it sustainable for the future. Tourist can enjoy the architectural wonders of the monument but must not graffiti on walls to show their skills.
3. Reusable bags are the best choice
The beautiful tourist destination must not lose its beauty due to litters or plastic covers. The place becomes more sustainable if tourists follow the practice of using reusable bags. Tourist can avoid using plastic bags while buying chocolates or cookies; it will, in turn, avoid tones of covers in the dustbin or the litters flying all over.
4. Respect the culture and the tradition
Each place has its unique culture and tradition. The tourist must be sensitive to that. The tourist must not do things that hurt the sentiments of the natives. The tourist must enjoy the unique culture and tradition and express it to their friends and family so that they will be inspired to visit the place.
5. Travel in the off-season or stay outside the city
Overcrowding leads to pollution and makes the place less sustainable. The tourist spots are overcrowded and polluted during certain times. A considerate tourist would travel in the off season to enjoy the beauty of the place. The best option, if not traveling in off season is to stay in a less crowded place outside the city and enjoy the city by traveling a bit. Green mode of travel could opt if possible.
6. Buy the significant local items
When tourist buys the local items that hold significance the local artists get benefited. Tourist can encourage local art by purchasing them and taking as memories.
7. Educate your friends and family on sustainability.
Sustainable tourism becomes possible when more people are aware of it. The tourists must encourage all their friends and family member to follow the practices that cause no harm to travel destinations. The place will not lose its sustainability and remain beautiful if more travelers are considerate and cautious while traveling.
As a good tourist, it is essential to leave the place the same as it was when we arrived. It is a lesson that all tourist should learn for the earth to be sustainable for generations. Hope the travelers will remember to follow the ways that keep the place sustainable.

Wow this is something none of us think about while travelling. Good you knocked it into our head so we are aware in the future. Impressive post!
IT really hurts to see people deface the heritage sites, the other pointers too which u have mentioned are something to keep in mind to promote sustainable tourism
I am so glad that you wrote on this topic. So many travellers need to realise that they can positively contribute to the sustainable living of the places they are visiting. Personally, I love promoting the local culture, food and products so that the inhabitants get a boost. I really hope that your post reaches more and more people and affects them positively.
We can sustain tourism by maintain proper hygiene in our country and keep the monument or tourist places maintained.
I fully believe and follow sustainable living practices. This is an important post for every traveller. We need to be a conscious human as well a conscious traveler too. I even carry bags to throw garbage in my car and also carry my own spoo,n glass, plate to avoid using plastic glasses or spoons. Eat local fresh food its more healthy and helps local sellers.
Loved your post a lot.
I have travelled in off-season and really liked it as there aren’t nosy tourists everywhere.
Need of the hour. Particularly the way people deface the heritage sites. We need more awareness about sustainable tourism.
This is a very important message, that you have shared here and very valid points. If we as travellers don’t become responsible and focus on sustainability, we will soon deplete the resources in some of the most beautiful places on earth. Leh and Ladhak is a very good example. People have exploited the fragile ecosystem way too much and it is high time that we should be doing something to protect it. Thank you for sharing the good message of sustainable travelling.
