How to Validate the Safety of Baby Wipes

When it comes to babies every mommy wants the best and safest products on the planet. We want the best from the baby’s toy to baby’s hair oil, the word compromise doesn’t exist.

But, have you ever looked at these products and the ingredient which is used to prepare them?? The reality is shocking. The little ones are being exposed to hard chemicals and harmful ingredients unknowingly. The delicate skin of the baby is super sensitive and fragile. The baby skin can quickly absorb harmful chemicals too, it can lead to allergies, skin infection, rashes and pain.

How to Validate the Safety of Baby Wipes

Several baby products, especially the wipes, claim to be super soft and gentle on skin, but they sure aren’t. They are loaded with chemicals and can cause severe rashes on the fragile skin.

Use of Toxic Chemicals in Baby Wipes

The baby wipes which you are using multiple time every day can do more harm to the delicate baby skin than good, this is because they are made with a synthetic fabric called “polyester”. Higher the percentage of polyester the more harmful it will be for the baby.

Mother Sparsh Baby Water Wipes made with 98 % water

Polyester is used to manufacture baby wipes because they are low in cost and water repellent. In fact, even a small gentle scrub of polyester fabric on baby’s skin can lead to rashes. The polyesters are usually made with plastic waste and it is the final outcome of chemical reaction that involves coal and petroleum too.

How to Find Out Whether the Wipes Are Safe or Not

A simple flame test can be used to find out if your wipes are made with polyester or not. If it contains polyester, they surely are very harmful to your little one. The flame test can be easily done at home. All you need is

  • Baby Wipes
  • Match Box
  • Candles

Method to Do the Flame Test

  1. Begin with lighting the candle via matchbox.
  2. Take one baby wipe and allow it to dry a little. This will make the burning process easy.
  3. Hold one corner of the wipe and place it near the burning candle.

Factors to Notice

  1. Smell

This is the crucial factor, if the burnt wipes smell like plastic then the wipes are manufactured using polyester. These wipes can definitely have the worst effect on baby’s skin.

Validate the Safety of Baby Wipes

If the wipes don’t give a bad smell while burning or you can simply smell the normal fragrance of burned cloth or paper it means the wipes are made with natural fabric. Just like Mother Sparsh Water Based Wipes, these baby wipes are made with natural plant fabric and contain 100 % biodegradable fabric and has zero bad fragrance when burned.

  1. Burnt Fabric Status

Once the fabric is burnt, if you notice any presence of hard black lump or remains that denotes that the fabric is made with Polyester. Whereas if the wipes turn into ashes, it contains 100 % genuine fabric and is also too gentle on skin. In short, if the fabric is made of biodegradable fabric, everything will instantly turn into ashes after burning.

Mother Sparsh Baby Wipes

I was earlier using a popular brand of wipes which claims to be super soft on baby’s skin. After undergoing the flame test it failed miserably.

I recently switched to Mother Sparsh Baby Wipes, the pack says it is 98 % water based wipes and is made with Natural Plant Fabric (i.e. zero Polyester). I conducted the flame test and Mother Sparsh water-based wipes stood out and passed it successfully.

What I liked the most about Mother Sparsh Baby Wipes

  1. The wipes are made with 100 % natural fabric and totally safe on delicate baby skin.
  2. It is totally safe for even new-born baby skin.
  3. The Mother Sparsh Baby Wipes are safe to clean the hands, legs, and face.
  4. The wipes are parabens and alcohol-free with organic aloe vera to maintain pH balance.
  5. Clinically proven to prevent diaper rashes

Before finalizing a baby wipe, always conduct the flame test to ensure it is 100 % safe on delicate baby skin.
